ABOUT

Our Mission

First Baptist Church of Algoa Texas is a body of believers in Jesus Christ as the only means of salvation and redemption. We actively fulfill the Great Commission, found in Matthew 28:19-20, by preaching and teaching of all things written in the Holy Bible, and supporting active missionaries in the local community, North America, and abroad.  We believe Christians should live sanctified lives that give glory to the name of Jesus Christ. We observe two ordinances of the church as members: Baptism and the Lord's Supper. We exist to glorify Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior in Algoa Texas, the local area, and abroad.

OUR MEMBERSHIP

Families Anchored in Jesus Christ

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: (Romans 8:14 KJV). Here at First Baptist Church of Algoa we believe that all members are family and should be treated with the love of Jesus Christ.

At 1st Baptist Church of Algoa, TX, we are dedicated to stepping up our efforts in addressing financial, physical, and prayer support for missionaries of the Gospel of Christ.  Acts 13:2-3 “While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off.”

YOUTH GROUP PROGRAMS

Reinforcing our Commitment

Psalms 144:12 - That our sons [may be] as plants grown up in their youth; [that] our daughters [may be] as corner stones, polished [after] the similitude of a palace:

The most important part of any church is the youth.  FBCA has been provided with the blessings of wonderful parents/guardians/teachers and volunteers that understand the importance of leading youth to finding a place for Jesus Christ in their hearts.  We also believe the best way to learn to love our neighbor is for youth to get involved in missions, Outreach, Sunday School, and other faith based youth activities that support the mission of the church and prepare them for the challenges of living a Christian life in modern society.

FAQ

The Answers You Need

WHAT DO WE BELIEVE?

We share these orthodox views of most Christians:

  • The Trinity of God

  • The Virgin birth and deity of Jesus Christ

  • The Verbal and Plenary inspiration of the Scriptures

  • The Preservation of the Scriptures

  • The death, burial, and resurrection of Christ

  • The imminent return of Jesus Christ

  • Salvation by grace through faith alone

  • Believer's baptism by immersion

  • The eternal security of the believer

  • The priesthood of the believer

  • Religious liberty for all

  • The separation of church and state

  • The ordinances of the church are given prominence.

  • Baptism is an act of obedience, not an optional preference, for each believer.

  • Baptism is related to the church; therefore, the church must be scriptural for its baptism to be scriptural.

  • The Lord's Supper is a memorial to be observed within the context of the church, the local assembly of baptized believers.

  • The mission of the church is strategic.

  • Each church should evangelize its local area.

HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER OF FBCA?

While all visitors are welcome.  In order to become a member of FBCA one must be a confessed believer in Jesus Christ, and baptized by full immersion as an outward testimony of belief in Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection.  Once these requirements have been met and an individual believer makes known their desire to become a member, the church will vote on acceptance of the member to the local body.

WHAT ARE THE ORDINANCES OF THE BAPTIST CHURCH?

There are two Ordinances of the Baptist church as presented in scripture.

They are:

  • Baptism

  • Lords Supper

Christian baptism is the single immersion of a believer in water to show our identification with the crucified, buried, and risen Savior.  Baptism is performed under the authority of the local church; and that it is prerequisite to the privileges of church membership.

The Lord's Supper is the commemoration of the death of Jesus Christ as payment for our Sin and should be observed until the return of Jesus. The Lord's Supper should be preceded always by solemn self-examination. We believe that the Biblical order of the ordinances is baptism first and then the Lord's Supper, and that participants in the Lord's Supper should be immersed believers.

Acts 8:36, 38, 39; John 3:23; Romans 6:3-5; Matthew 3:16; Colossians 2:12; 1 Corinthians 11:23-28; Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 2:41, 42

WHAT ARE THE BAPTIST DISTINCTIVES?

The Baptist Distinctives are an acronym that identifies the difference in the practice of the Baptist faith among other Christian religions.

BAPTISTS

  • Biblical Authority  - the Bible is the final authority in all matters of faith and practice.

  • Autonomy of the Local Church - Each local church is an independent body accountable to Jesus Christ as its head. No hierarchy exists in the Baptist faith.

  • Priesthood of the Believer  - Every believer, as a priest, has direct access to God through prayer and worship without the aid of a mediator.

  • Two Ordinances - The New Testament provides for only two ordinances of the local church: believer's baptism and the Lord's Supper.  They are ordinances and not sacraments.

  • Individual Soul Liberty - Each individual has the liberty to believe according to the dictates of his own soul.  No one should be forced to consent to any belief against his own will.

  • Saved, Baptized Church Membership - Local church membership should be restricted to those who have a personal testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and who have obediently followed the Lord in believer's baptism.

  • Two Office in the Church (Pastor and Deacon) - The two biblically established offices of the local church are that of the Pastor and the Deacon.

  • Separation of Church and State - No church should be given authority over the state and the state should not have the authority to control the churches.

WHAT IS THE BAPTIST FAITH AND MESSAGE?

The Baptist Faith and Message summarizes key Southern Baptist thought in areas of the Bible and it's authority, the nature of God, the condition of man, God's provision of grace through Jesus Christ, and the role of the local church. You can read this here
